Question by Susan B: Where is the quote “There I was, there I was, there I was, IN the Congo” from?
This is driving me nuts, but I heard this recently and can not remember where it’s from. I searched the interwebs, but all I get is people using the quote, not referencing the source. Thanks for the help!

it’s from a commercial, but i can’t remember what it was for. seems like there was a lady going on dates with all these jerks, and he was one of them (being a show-off)

Funny, I just heard it tonight on 30 Rock and it was driving me nuts too trying to remember where I first heard it! Looking at the other results on Google (besides the one that led me to your question), I found the answer: A Bud Dry commercial “about [a] gal who has three loser dates: ‘There I was, there I was, there I was…IN the Congo!’; ‘My mother makes the best brisket’; and ‘Ah, you done eatin’ that?’”
