Rudyard Kipling’s famous (or is it infamous?) satirical poem, ‘The Whiteman’s Burden’, was first published in February 1899 at the height of US expansion into the Caribbean and Pacific regions. Its ripples were far reaching. It emboldened the US into formally joining adventures of conquests of foreign lands.
